Dr. Peter J. Middlebrook

Dr. Peter J. Middlebrook is the CEO of Geopolicity Inc, a management and consultancy firm specialising in political, security and economic development.  He has 18 years international development experience, living and working largely in Africa and Central and Southern Asia, covering various aspects of the political economy, including national security, law and order and justice.  He was formerly a political-economist with the World Bank in South Asia covering Afghanistan and has worked widely on economic and public sector restructuring operations in weak and fragile states.  In 2004 he led the US$27 billion Afghanistan Reconstruction Needs Assessment leading an interdisciplinary team of 200 international experts and in 2006 he was the lead writer of the Afghan National Development Strategy (PRSP), also covering macro-economic, security, fiscal and economic policy development.  In recent years he has specialised in Security Sector Reform and new security economics, leading the first World Bank Public Expenditure Review of the Security Sector in Afghanistan, as well as supporting national security policy and strategy development in numerous countries.  He was a peer reviewer on the OECD-DAC IF-SSR, originated the term 'Right-financing' Security Sector Reform and is a member of the International Security Sector Advisory Team (ISSAT).  He received his doctor’s degree from the Institute of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (IMEIS) at the University of Durham and has published widely on issues related to new security economics, stabilisation and various aspects of foreign policy.

Sharon Michelle Miller, MA, CPA

Sharon Michelle Miller, MA, CPA, is the Managing Director of Geopolicity Inc. She holds a Masters degree in International Affairs from Columbia University with a specialization in economic and political development in post-conflict states and is currently undergoing doctoral research on energy markets in Middle East and North Africa at the University of Exeter. With over 15 years of executive level experience in financial management and investment banking, she has worked for such notable multinational corporations as Lehman Brothers and PriceWaterhouse Coopers, among others. Since 2000, she has worked in international development in Africa and Asia, for the European Union, UK Department for International Development, USAID, Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations. She has also worked for the Government of Afghanistan Presidents Office in the development of national investment programs and as a Presidential advisor on the Afghan National Development Strategy. In international development, Ms. Miller's professional engagement largely focuses on private sector development, fiscal management, public finance, public administration reform and economic reform.
